The most recent article (Eliot, 2007 - The Development of an Everyday Spatial Behavioral Questionnaire) I skimmed suggested two apparent continua of large-scale spatial abilities--movement through space and drawing/perceiving perspective/path finding (also possibly called dimensional discernment).
