What is an “AI Brief” at IQs Corner?

I am currently working on expanding my skill set by incorporating AI tools. Although adapting to new technologies can be challenging, leveraging these resources offers significant benefits for professional growth.

AI Brief’s, at IQs Corner, are produced by requesting Google NotebookLM to generate a narrative summary of one or more PDF journal articles.  Google NotebookLM takes an uploaded article and with the prompt to “write a narrative summary of the article.”  While I find the first draft promising, I do fine the need to make corrections, add important links and missing information, and do more editing to enhance the briefs accuracy and informativeness. Future plans include using this AI tool to summarize multiple articles, find similarities and differences between the articles, and create comparative tables.

These incremental steps mark my transition toward utilizing AI to support one of my primary professional interests: producing informative blog and social media posts aimed at professionals such as school psychologists and special education teachers working with students who often are marginalized in educational contexts. The goal is to help bridge the gap between theory, technology, research, and practical application.

Feedback is encouraged and may be directed to iqmcgrew@gmail.com or via the social media platform (LinkedIn, Twitter/X, BlueSky) comment feature where this blog post was discovered. I’m hoping to add AI Briefs as a regular feature of IQs Corner Blog and associated social media platforms.

Dr. Kevin McGrew’s update on MindHub web portal and IQs Corner blog - FYI and humble brag time

I’ve finally found time to perform some maintenance (e.g., fixing dead links; removing select info; updating posted articles; etc.) on my MindHub web portal.  I do the best I can as someone who has not stayed current on the ins-and-outs of web page work. The MindHub was originally developed by professional web people in 2012 and I try my best to maintain it on my own😉

Click on images to enlarge for easy viewing

My first internet presence is my IQs Corner blog that started in March 2005.  It has now been in existence for 21 years!  It can also be accessed at the MindHub.

As of today, IQs Corner, since Jan 2011, has had over 7.3 millions hits/visits!!  This number does not include the first five years of the blog (2005-2010) when I was extremely active in posting new material.  I believe that a reasonable estimate of total hits/visits is likely 10+ million. Thanks to all who have supported my 20+ years of blogging.

Below is the most recent graph of visits/hits.  Notice the recent significant spike in activity since I decided to pay more attention to IQs Corner circa 2024. I’m back!

I hope people find my sharing of information useful in their work.

Why “IQ’s Corner” name? Dr. IQ McGrew’s special #schoolpsycholgy #intelligence and #CHC corner on the web.

I am often asked why the blog I started in March 2005 (close to 20 years ago) was given the name IQ’s Corner.  Here is the brief backstory.

I began work as a non-doctoral school psychologist in 1975.  I worked for two years in rural Iowa and then learned of a job in St. Cloud, Mn from a friend who graduated from the Moorhead State University (now called Minnesota State University—Moorhead) School Psychology program one year before me.

If memory serves me correctly, the St. Cloud metro area, at the time, was approximately 50k in size.  I became only the second on a staff of only two school psychologists.  Given what was happening in special education at the time (child find; building programs) and the size of St. Cloud, the two of us SP’s were primarily busy with SPED-related assessments.

Given the schools that were my responsibility, the demand for my testing was typically above that of my colleague.  At the end of every school year a report was generated re our activities for that year.  A major portion focused on the number of assessments completed.  I was typically in the number 1 slot year-after-year.  My colleague nicked-named me “IQ McGrew”, and the abbreviated “IQ” just stuck.  One typically never creates one’s nickname—nicknames seem to emerge organically from a single person or moment.

One year our director of SPED suggested that the SPED department (which was where we were housed) needed better PR.  My colleague and I suggested a SPED newsletter, and my colleague jokingly said “and hey….McGrew can have a special corner in the newsletter….”IQ’s Corner.”  It became a long-standing joke, as well as my nickname of “IQ McGrew”.

So…when starting a blog on a whim in 2005, I simply called it IQs Corner…the long-standing plan of me having a column in our SPED newsletter had came to fruition…as a small corner of the web—IQ’s Corner. Now you know the rest of the story.

Fast forward, and within my wives family of three young adult sons, I have now earned the nickname of K-dizzle….and more recently, just “diesel”.  I’ll leave the origins a mystery for now. :)

#IQs Corner blog is back—again!!!! Repost of original post that went MIA…must have been happy fingers

Sorry.  But my original “IQs Corner blog is back” post disappeared, most likely due to me deleting it by mistake as I worked to relearn blog maintenance skills :)  If you saw the first post before it was deleted, feel free to ignore.

Briefly, I started blogging in 2005…almost 20 years ago!!!!  I blogged regularly for 12 years, and then, due to the press of other projects and an acute serious illness in 2018-2019, IQs Corner more-or-less went silent.  Also, blogging decreased as a strong social media presence.

However, with the emergence of other social media that encourages more brief or micro-blogging (Twitter/X; LinkedIN, etc.), I’ve decided to resurrect the blog in a slightly different form.  It will not have lengthy posts as in the past…to deal with the TDLR effect in social media.  Instead, there will be briefer FYI posts or simple briefer writing on my part.  I do reserve the right to post more traditional lengthy posts. :)

Also, I’m harnessing the cool IFTTT app that sends posts to Twitter/X and LinkedIN automatically as soon as I post a message on IQs Corner…three posts for the price of one!   My “place in the internet space” on the other two platforms are here (Twitter/X; LinkedIN).  Sorry to those that may follow me on the other two platforms…you will receive multiple posts…just ignore.

Let the games begin.

Brain network research and the P-FIT model of intelligence: The Time Doc's working notebooks

I have been slammed with work this summer an have been unable to blog about exciting research I have been reading in the area of brain networks. I did start a series on the P-FIT model of intelligence, but have yet to get back to it as planned. I will...but it will take some time before I can push more projects off my desk.

I have been dutifully compiling working notebooks on two of the most exciting topics and have decided to make them available to readers now. They include abstracts, images, and select text from various sources. I seem to find new research in these two areas almost daily...so just maintaining these working notebooks is all I have been able to keep up with. I hope readers find them interesting.

Links to the two notebooks are below...and they will also be available at Reports and Publications section (Neurotechnology subsection) of the MindHub

The first is the "Your brain is a network: The Human Connectome and brain network research notebook". It is suggested you view these notes first as the second fits within this context. [Click on images to enlarge]

The second is "Parietal-Frontal Intelligence: The P-FIT research notebook"

IQ's Corner and Brain Clock "Times" daily e-newspapers...free

A number of months ago I started two different daily e-newspapers. It took a while to find feeds that provided good content related to each paper, but I think things are good now. However, I will continue to revise those feeds that are searched and incorporated with regularity.

The two papers are below with links to where you can subscribe by hitting the subscribe button at each page. You should be able to subsribe and have an email in your inbox each day. You do NOT need a Twitter or Facebook account to subsribe..which was a common complaint I had earlier. That problem turned out to be my error as I was providing people a link to my personal sign-in page.

Enjoy. There is some overlap in content.

Join/follow "IQs Corner" at Facebook

I have no idea what this feature will evolve into, but I've added a Facebook badge/button to all three of my professional blogs.  If it works as intended, clicking on the badge/button should take you to the IQ's Corner Facebook Group.....which I hope it allows you to join (if you want).

IQs Corner is official !!!!

IQs Corner is now official.  If you are tired of typing in the long title for this blog (www.intelligencetesting.blogspot.com) you now can use the shorter nickname that has become associated with this blog--IQs Corner.  The new URL is www.iqscorner.com.  Either the old (long) or newer (.com) address will work.  I hope this makes it easier for folks to remember where to locate this blog.  If all else fails just Google "IQs Corner"....as it always shows up at the top of the first page of Google results.

Thank you IQ Corner readers

Thank you readers. Sometime during this past week IQ's Corner blog the unique visitor counter reached and surpassed the 1/2 million mark (250,000+). I also have noted that the total number of hits (450,000+) is approaching the 1/2 million mark.

This type of date-based feedback is one reason I continue blogging...which is largely a hobby.

Thanks to all who are regular readers. Spread the word so we can reach and exceed even loftier numbers.

Save IQs Corner material to PDF file option

You can now save your favorite IQs Corner posts to PDF files for on-offline viewing.  I'm starting this service as I believe that e-readers are going to become more popular.  I accumulate PDF files (esp. journal articles) like a pack rat and have put my name on the Kindle DX pr-order list.  I anticipate others to eventually join the e-reader movement.  If you do not plan to adopt the e-reader technology, you may still enjoy the option of saving copies of select IQs corner posts to your hard drive as PDF files for later off-line veiwing or printing.

There is now a button down on the left-hand side of my blog to activate the save function.  An example of the result can be seen by clicking here.  This nifty service is free from Web2PDF.

I hope users find this useful.

The "intelligent" economic stimulus: IQs Corner ads

The "intelligent" economic stimulus - advertise at IQ's Corner!

Over the past 1+ year I've offered ad space on my blog at bargain rates. At various times I've had 2-3 wise companies utilize this service. Why do I offer ads at this professional blog?

Simple. I LOVE blogging. IQs Corner (and now the sister blog...Tic Toc Talk: The IQ Brain Clock) are real labors of love..and are, more-or-less, hobbies. However, I'm not able to spend as much time as I would like with my blogs. If I had the time I could be posting considerable more material and could add new features. However, blogging comes at the expense of other work, projects, contracts, etc....all that pay the bills. Long story short---If this blog could generate a little "ching" in my pocket, I could then rationalize stealing time from other activities and do more. In return, advertisers would be receiving a bargain...at a top-notch recognized blog (see data below).

The current rate is a bargain (I will send you the information upon request). In the spirit of recovery for our economy, I'm keeping 2009 ad rates at the same rates used during 2008. If you are someone (or an organization) and want to make me a "creative proposal" (multiple ads; more than six months)...then fire away. Contact me at email address provided at the end of this post.

Why should anyone consider advertising on this blog?

A few random pieces of data below:
  • You can't beat the rates. [Or, make me an offer I can't refuse]
  • IQs Corner was mentioned in Scientific American:Mind - and this was quite a while ago, before its web footprint became larger.
  • Your investment should reach a group of readers who are interested in staying abreast of contemporary research in intelligence theories, intelligence testing, educational psychology, school psychology, neuropsychology, special education, and general psychological and educational theory and assessment. As of today, since its birth, IQs Corner's (as reflected by the hit counter) has had almost 1/4 million unique visitors (230,305) and over 400,000 page views (404,774)
  • You would help a great guy keep his hobby going :)

The placement of an ad does not imply endorsement of the advertising company or products by Kevin McGrew, the Institute for Applied Psychometrics, or IQs Corner Blog. It is just a way to try keep this blog hobby viable.

Web footprint: Presence on FIRST page of Google searches

I conducted a number of Google searches on 1-25-09 using the following variety of search terms. Click on each term to see the search results. As you will see, IQ's Corner Blog (this blog), my primary web page (IAP), or IQ's Corner sister blog (IQ Brain Clock) most often showed up on the FIRST page of Google results returned...sometimes the second page. As we know, most people only pay attention to the results of the first page (and sometimes second) from Google searches. Clearly this humble little blog does pop up when people interested in intelligence theory, research, testing, and related topics do searches for information:
