McGrew (2009) CHC article # 1 cited article in Intelligence since 2008

Warning, this is a blow-my-own-horn post.

Today I visited the ISIR journal of Intelligence web page---the premiere journal for intelligence scholars. I was pleased to see that my 2009 publication, "CHC theory and the human cognitive abilities project: Standing on the shoulders of the giants of psychometric intelligence research" has been, according to Scopus, the number one cited article in the journal since 2008. I am humbled and thankfull. If it was not for Doug Detterman's invitation to write this invited article, I would not now have this honor. The last time I checked, many many months ago, it was at #4. This would make my mom and dad proud. A copy of the article can be downloaded here.

Request for assistance: The HCA project needs help tracking down copies of old journal articles, dissertations, etc. for a number of datasets being archived. We have yet to locate copies of the original manuscripts for a significant number of datasets that have been posted to the archive. Help in locating copies of these MIA manuscripts would be appreciated.  Please visit the special "Requests for Assistance" section of this archive to view a more complete list of manuscripts that we are currently having trouble locating. If you have access to either a paper or e-copy of any of the designated "fugitive" documents, and would be willing to provide them to WMF to copy/scan (we would cover the costs), please contact Dr. Kevin McGrew at the email address listed at the site.  A copy of the complete list or datasets with missing mannuscripts (in red font) can also be downloaded directlly from here.

Please join the WMF HCA listserv to receive routine email updates regarding the WMF HCA project.

All posts regarding this project can be found here.

Finally, it was exciting to learn that an article "in press" in the journal Intelligence utilized one of the WMF HCA archived datasets.  Information regarding that article is contained in the two images below.

WMF Human Cognitive Abilities (HCA) project update: 12-30-09 -- FREE data for secondary analysis!

The free on-line WMF Human Cognitive Abilities (HCA) archive project was updated today. An overview of the project, with a direct link to the archive, can be found at the Woodcock-Muñoz Foundation web page (click on "Current Woodcock-Muñoz Foundation Human Cognitive Abilities Archive") . Also, an on-line PPT copy of a poster presentation I made at the 2008 (Dec) ISIR conference re: this project can be found by clicking here.

After a period of inactivity (due to being swamped), I am pleased to announce the following additions and revisions.

Currently, 115 of Jack Carroll's original correlation matrices (in Excel file format) are now available at the archive. These correlation files can be downloaded for free and can be used for secondary data analysis. Of these 115, 75 also include the original manuscript which provides descriptive information regarding the variables in the correlation matrices. Finally, 59 of the 115 include the correlation matrices, original publication, and Carroll's official EFA results.  We continue to work hard to try to locate copies of old articles, missing files, etc.

Below are the additions and revisions to the archive for the current update.  The abbreviations used below are those used by Jack Carroll  in his 1993 book. A master index of these abbreviations and associated references can be found at the following link.

The following are new correlation matrices that are available:
  • DETTOO
  • DEVRO1
  • DUNC11
  • SATT11
  • SAUN03
  • SAUN11
  • SCHE11
  • SCHI01
  • SCHI02
  • SCHI11
  • SCHI12
  • SCHU01
  • SCHU02
The original manuscript (dissertation) for FAUL11 has now been added to that dataset branch.

Errors in the variable names for REIN01, REIN02, REIN03, and REIN04 Excel correlation files have been fixed.

Happy holidays.

The free on-line WMF Human Cognitive Abilities (HCA) archive project was updated today. The major updates included the following:
  • A number of new datasets (correlation matrices analyzed in Carroll's 1993 factor analysis meta-analysis) and original journal articles were added to the archive
    • The HCA project needs help tracking down copies of old journal articles, dissertations, etc. for a number of datasets being archive. Please visit the "master bibliography/inventory" section of this archive and visit the on-line dataset/reference file. WMF Human Cognitive Abilities archive project announcement

I'm pleased to announce, under the auspicious of my Woodcock-Munoz Foundation (WMF) Research Director Position hat (one of the many hats I wear), that the WMF Human Cognitive Abilities Archive Project is now operational! The focus of this project is to make available (for secondary data analysis) the original correlation matrices used by Dr. John "Jack" Carroll in his seminal treatise Human Cognitive Abilities: A Survey of Factor-Analytic Studies (Carroll, 1993).

The WMF HCA archive can be found by clicking here (for Gv-oriented MindMap navigation, here for more traditional web page navigation, and here for a simple outline navigation mode. You can toggle between the three navigation modes via the three options in the upper right hand corner of each modes home page.

As you will see when visiting the site, there is a special WMF HCA announcement (newsletter) listserv that one should join to receive routine updates regarding the posting of new correlation matrices, as well as other project related information. Correlation matrices, as well as copies of the original manuscripts (if they can be located), will be posted as they are processed.
